CLLAA Spring 2023 Update
Ice is fading fast! Won’t be long ’til the lake is buzzing with spring activity.
Several members from the CLLAA Board met with representatives from ProgressiveAE on April 13 to discuss the treatment plans for the 2023 milfoil activities.
While this is always a temporary inconvenience we are working to get as much advance notification as we can. Nobody wants the lake to be shut down for 24 hours… but it is a state of Michigan requirement that swimming and water access be suspended for these treatments. In addition, ProgressiveAE has indicated that the minimum of water activity (boating, jet skiing, etc.) after treatment is the most effective way to keep the chemicals concentrated on the milfoil.
Listed below are the range of tentative dates for the 2023 lake surveys and treatments. Weather factors such as wind, water temps, clouds, and water levels all have an impact and may change these range of dates. The survey and treatment will only take place on ONE day within the ranges. We will post specific date information via emails, the CLLAA website, and the Long Lake Facebook page. Also note that the 24 hour no access is for treatment days only and not survey dates.
Tentative Milfoil Survey & Treatment Dates
First Survey: June 12-14
First Treatment: June 20-27
Second Survey: July 17-19
Second Treatment: July 25-27
Third Survey: Late August
Progressive AE indicated that the small orange markers that CLLAA puts around the lake does assist them in finding potential milfoil survey and treatment locations. In addition, the association will be procuring a small hand held GPS unit to aid in marking these locations.
Some association members have expressed using the CLLAA website to establish a “lake items” classified area for selling boats, lifts, docks to other lake residents. Dar Maziasz engaged her grandson, Spencer Millwood, (created original Long Lake Facebook page) to create a page to sell lake sporting equipment. If interested in selling equipment please follow the Facebook protocols to establish access to this page.
As always, please remember to fertilize lawns close to the lakeshore with low phosphorous types of fertilizer. While they may be a bit more expensive they help keep the lake healthy and free of algae blooms.
Watch for additional updates on CLLAA activities via emails, the website, and the Facebook posts. Please feel free to contact any of the CLLAA Board members with any questions or concerns.
Don’t forget to put the last Saturday of June (June 24) on your calendar for the 2023 CLLAA Annual Meeting.
Enjoy and help protect the lake!
